In the rotting heart of Dower Hollow stands Thornroot & Bane, the apothecary steeped not only in shadow—but in scent. The air within carries a heavy, clinging mossy dampness, like forest rot and riverbeds buried in sleep. Bottles line the cracked wooden walls, each humming faintly, each labeled in the curling, brittle hand of Ephraim Thorne’s mother.

The peppercorn oil burns sharp in the air, used to ward off the spirits that press like breath against the windows. Its scent stings the nostrils, keeps the townsfolk half-awake as they clutch glass vials filled with swirling tinctures. Ephraim tells them it “clears the veil,” though none know what that means.

Behind the counter, Ephraim mixes herbs and oils with the care of a priest dressing a corpse. Patchouli, earthy and heady, binds most of his draughts. He says it grounds the soul—but in truth, it hides the stench of decay that seeps from the backroom floorboards, where the veil between the living and the Verdant Hollow grows thinner.

When he finds the vial of violet elixir, sealed in a drawer behind a panel of balsam wood, its scent rises like an old lullaby—sweet, pine-slick, and ancient. Holding it, Ephraim hears his mother’s voice for the first time in years, drifting on the fragrance like fog.

In the Hollow, the air is different. Chamomile grows wild in moonless fields, gentle but deceptive—its calming perfume masking the feverish pleading of the dead. Coriander seeds rattle in the hollow winds, a dry brightness that lingers in the throat like forgotten names.

When Ephraim returns—half man, half memory—he distills a new essence, a final creation. A vial filled with scents that do not belong together, yet feel inexplicably right: the herbal astringency of sage, mingled with chamomile’s quiet, patchouli’s depth, and the whisper of moss that clings to the tongue.

The scent of that elixir haunts the town now. It clings to those who drink it—marking them as touched, as claimed. They walk differently. Sleep less. And some are never seen again.

And in the apothecary, the bell above the door chimes for no one, the peppercorn smoke curling toward the ceiling like the last prayer of the dead.

Our fragrances are hand mixed once your order is placed, so that our perfumes arrive to you as fresh as possible. Please allow shipping time to accommodate our personal attention to your new items! Perfumes can be worn 24 hours after mixing, however for best results, wait at least 2 weeks after creation for the full bouquet to shine through!

Directions:

For the body oil: apply to wrists and other pulse points. As your body heat warms up the oil, the scent will release. Oil based fragrances are heavier than sprays and wear closer to your body. Reapply as often as needed. We use light dry oils so that the oil base absorbs more quickly into your skin, leaving no oily or sticky residue.

For the spray: our sprays are alcohol based for a larger burst of fragrance upon applying. We do not use any synthetic additives in our products to increase longevity of our scents (making our products more natural for you to wear), so please reapply as needed. Please note: some people are more sensitive to alcohol based products, please test prior to normal use.

Ingredients in oils: organic jojoba oils, phthalate free fragrance and essential oils, and organic vitamin E oil. May contain isopropyl myristate.

Ingredients in sprays: denatured or grain alcohol, phthalate free fragrance and essential oils.

Warning: Spray is flammable! Do not use sprays near open flame or heat source! Do not ingest! Keep away from eyes, nose, and mouth. Keep away from children and pets. Do not apply oils to fabrics, may stain.
